Here's a sampling of some Antique Books now available. All prices are net, exclusive of postage (which is $4.75 per order) and tax (for you Californians) which will be calculated at 7.75%. Check with first order please, after that (and I know you'll want more than one) I will invoice you. All items may be returned within 15 days for full refund less postage. B-5. 1850 (Gov Document) - "Geological Report on the Copper Land of Lake Superior Land District Michigan" 31st Congress, 1st session, House Ex Doc No. 69. J. Foster and J.D. Whitney, geologists. 224 pp with map and plates. Light browning and some foxing. Cover in Good condition with lettering faded. Small 8mo. Plate are page sized and depict various mining scenes. 12 called for and 6 present (VII through XII). Large folding map is a facsimile of the 1670 Jesuit map of Lake Superior and the adjoining area. Map was poorly folded in, but is intact with a small and easily repaired attachment tear. Map could be easily pressed out. Litho by Sherman, NY. There was copper in those there hills and Whitney and Foster told all about. Even with missing plates, this is worth: $40.00

B-2. 1874 - "Handy Royal Atlas of Modern Geography" Alexander Keith Johnston. Wm. Blackwood and Sons, London and Edinburgh. Small Folio atlas with 46 maps (45 numbered plus frontispiece "North Polar Chart".) Second edition with dedicatory page to "His Royal Highness Albert Edward Prince of Wales..." In addition to the maps, there is a 92 page index. This copy, which was found in Hobart, Tasmania, also has a loose map in the back entitled "Sketch map of the Seat of war in Afghanistan Mercury Supplement, April 18, 1885". This plate, approx 12 x 14, was lithographed at the "Mercury Office, Hobart". Atlas condition is Very Good+ with only light scuffing to its green leather binding and corners.
Maps are Near Fine. $470.00

B-13. 1886 "Southern California: its valleys, hills and streams; its animals birds and fishes; its gardens, farms and climate." Theodore Van Dyke. Fords, Howard & Hulbert, NY small octavo, 233 pages. Title says it all. great chapter on the "drawbacks" of California life..if it were only so!! $35.00

B-10. 1887 "Picturesque San Diego" Douglas Gunn. Chicago, Knight & Leonard. 98 pp with 72 photogravures. 10.5x7.5 original full leather, lettered in gilt. Floral end papers. An extensive series of photographs of san Diego and the surrounding area, its scenery, fine buildings, hotels etc. Some wear to extremities & edges. Top panel of spine replaced with black cloth otherwise very good, internally clean & near fine. $380.00

B-7. 1897 - "Alaska and the Klondike Gold Fields..."; A.C. Harris. Publisher or location not given. Frontis map and many prints. 528 pp. Bound in cloth in a gold color with scene of an (?) Alaska camp on cover. FIRST EDITION - $140.00

B-12. Set of 2 California books. 1913 "California Coast Trails. A horseback ride from Mexico to Oregon" J. Smeaton Chase. Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston and new York. Small octavo, 326pp with numerous photos. Spanish glossary in back. Most interesting rambles up the coast in a much different California. And San Diego is pronounced san de-aa'-go. There you have it. Along with: 1915 "Nature & Science on the Pacific Coast." Paul Elder and Company, San Francisco. small octavo. 320 pp with 19 text figures, 29 half-tone plates, and 14 maps. "A guide book for scientific travelers in the west" Worth it for the great picture of Mt Lassen in eruption,1914. And all you ever wanted to know about the insects of the West Coast. the pair at $60.00
